Referring to the sources within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Wprost writes, that during a meeting of heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Poland and Germany in Minsk with Aliaksandr Lukashenka, the president of Belarus has come up with a long monologue. "He said that he does not understand how the man can live with the other man. It was an obvious hint on Guido Westerwelle, Germany's first openly gay foreign minister, who has a partner. The German minister has become nervous, but Lukashenko has gone further on. In rather sharp expressions he said, that has nothing against lesbians, but he would rather send gays to the collective farms with a great pleasure", stresses a source of the newspaper.
“It’s interesting that comments were made almost at the same time when the permission to hold the gay demonstration against homophobia was granted by Minsk authorities. There’s absolutely no logic or any kind of continuity in Lukashenka’s statements and deeds. A brutal crackdown on the peaceful demonstrators on the election night is the best example”, said Viachaslau Bortnik, Belarusian human rights defender and LGBT activist.
